    Julie Abouchar, B.Sc. (Hons.), LL.B., B.C.L., LL.M., is a Partner at Willms & Shier Environmental Lawyers LLP and Certified as an Environmental Law Specialist and an Indigenous Legal Issues Specialist by the Law Society of Ontario. Julie is a recognized expert in environmental, Indigenous and energy and natural resources law.

    Julie has special expertise in water regulation and policy, including drinking water and source water protection. She served as Assistant Commission Counsel at the Walkerton Inquiry, was Legal Advisor to the Expert Panel on Regulating Safe Drinking Water on First Nations commissioned by the Assembly of First Nations in association with the Government of Canada, and advised the Ontario government on source water protection as a member of the Source Protection Implementation Committee. Julie is also a member of the CTC Source Protection Committee for the greater Toronto watershed and served as a Director of the Ontario Clean Water Agency. Julie is co-author of Ontario Water Law, published by Canada Law Book.

    Julie also provides solutions to other environmental law issues including contaminated land, environmental assessment, environmental risk assessment, transactional due diligence and compliance. She helps clients obtain environmental approvals. Julie appeals environmental orders and approvals issued by regulators to tribunals including the Environmental Review Tribunal, assists clients with environmental inspections and investigations, and negotiates with regulators on behalf of clients being prosecuted for environmental non-compliance. Julie also has a substantial Aboriginal law and consultation practice, and assists clients with renewable energy and transmission projects.
